Michigan Alliance for Families
Michigan Alliance for Families provides information, support, and education for you and your family, including packets of general and specific information for families of children with special needs from birth to age 26, a list of resources throughout the state and nation, and information on how to navigate systems and be more involved with your child’s education. The purpose of the project is to increase the involvement of families in their children's education and the educational system in general through:
• an information, support, and resource center
• regional sites than can be more personally address families' needs leadership mentoring and support.
Michigan Alliance for Families works to improve results for children with disabilities by helping families to:
• Know their rights; effectively communicate their children's needs; and help the children develop and learn.
• Facilitate parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.
The Arc Michigan on behalf of the Michigan Alliance for Families administers this grant awarded by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Special Education-Early Intervention Services. It also receives funding from MDE Office of Early Childhood Education and Family Services. The grant is an Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Mandated Activities Project (MAP). The grant works in collaboration with MDE, Michigan’s Parent Training and Information Center, and many other member and partner organizations around the state.
